- Looking for a machine gear software program to generate a vector file
- output (in HPGL or PLT format).
-
- Some of the specific variables that need to be included are:
- - pitch diameter
- - circular pitch
- - number of teeth
- - flank
- - face
- - clearance
- - pitch line
- - etc.
-
- I have a 1940 version of the "AMERICAN MACHINISTS' HANDBOOK", which
- includes references to all the necessary variables and parameters, but
- I do not have a method for correlating the data into a format that I
- can use to write a "C" program. Modern CAD programs may have
- automated functions or subroutines that will generate the vectors for
- a correctly designed machine gear, but I do not need a full CAD
- program or suite -- just the gear formulas and hopefully a gear
- program.
-
- I am trying to generate an output file in HPGL or PLT format, to be
- imported into a laser cutting system. "Quick-C" source would be
- greatly appreciated, and MS-Windows V3.x absolutely a dream, but MS or
- IBM DOS would be greatly appreciated.
-
- Accuracy is important! My laser can cut with accuracies to 0.001", so
- generalized "hacks" are definitely not wanted.
-
- Anyone that can locate or provide a software program (DOS or Windows)
- will receive a gear cut from acrylic using the software provided. It
- will also be used to verify the accuracy of the program.
-
- Please, any and all help is graciously accepted!
-
- This may not be the correct group or format, but I would ask your
- indulgence since I have not been able to locate such a program through
- dilligent searches at a number of engineering locations, such as MIT,
- TAMU, Texas A&M, UT at Austin, Caltech, etc.
